L.I. Man Issues Emergency Plea For Living Kidney Donor

SELDEN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man is making a desperate plea for a living kidney donor.

Matthew Botchler, 37, of Selden has been plagued by illness since birth and now his kidneys are in rapid failure.

Botchler is on a seven to nine year waiting list for a kidney transplant, but his condition is so severe that he knows he won't make it.

He's on his own to find a suitable living donor, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

"If I don't go out and find it myself I may never find it," Botchler said. "It's not the easiest thing to find, so it's not like you can just walk up to anybody and say, 'Hey, can I have your kidney?'"

Botchler has set up a Facebook page -- Matt's Kidney Kampaign -- and is issuing an emergency plea to strangers.

Botchler is engaged to be married.

"She has stood by me through thick and thin and she is a true angel," Botchler said.

His fiancée, family members and friends are not suitable blood matches.
