NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Brooklyn native Michael K. Williams let everyone on Sunday know exactly how he feels about Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is under pressure from fans and players — both current and former — to come down hard on Sterling, who allegedly made racially charged comments in parts of a taped conversation released this weekend by Deadspin and TMZ.

“Ladies and gentlemen, there is no room in the NBA for Donald Sterling,” Williams, famous for his work on HBO’s “The Wire,” said to a sellout crowd at Barclays Center.

Williams was on hand to introduce the Nets’ starting lineup.

“That was strictly my call,” the actor said about his decision to call out Sterling, according to the New York Daily News. “I just felt it was the right thing to do. I just thought about it at the last minute. I didn’t do it for the crowd reaction. I just did it to build awareness. We need to know what’s going on. If someone didn’t know about it, maybe they’ll go Google it and find out the truth about it.”

Nets star Paul Pierce said he was “shocked” by the comments allegedly made by Sterling.

“I was very shocked to hear that from an owner, especially from an owner who hired a black coach, who gave him a lot of power to what’s going on in the organization, just to kind of hear how he really feels,” Pierce said.

“I think there’s no place in the game for things like this, for owners like this,” he added.

Also on Sunday, original Village People singer Victor Willis said he didn’t want “Y.M.C.A.” played at any more Clippers games.
