PELHAM, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — There may be a major break in the international search for a missing motorcyclist from New York.
Investigators are trying to determine if a body found in Mexico is that of Harry Devert, CBS 2 reported.
Devert, of Pelham, disappeared on Jan. 25 during a bike trip through Latin America for 44 days.
Devert’s family last heard from him when he sent a text message saying he was given an escort out of an area that had been deemed dangerous and included in travel warnings issued by the State Department.
Devert had been keeping in close touch with loved ones during his journey. The 32-year-old world traveler and adventure blogger said he was also expecting more escorts waiting for him in other towns.
His mother, Ann Devert, said he has been known to drop out of communication for up to three weeks, but typically gives her a heads up before.
The family’s lawyer told CBS 2 that the vehicle identification number on the motorcycle matches Devert’s.
DNA tests will be conducted to confirm the body’s identity.
