NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A group of beachgoers got quite a surprise Tuesday while trying to beat the summer swelter at Rockaway Beach.

Thomas O’Callaghan told CBSNewYork.com he spotted a whale breaching at around 2 p.m. at Beach 128th Street in Belle Harbor.

It’s not the first time whales have been spotted off the coast of New York City¬†this summer.
