Subway Series Set For April And September In 2015

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Forget everything you think you know about the Subway Series.

The Yankees and Mets unveiled their 2015 schedules on Monday and the annual series between the clubs have been shifted.

The teams initially played one three-game series in May and the other in June, but that changed in recent years to back-to-back two-game series over four days.

Next year the teams will go back to two three-game series, but they will be held months apart, with the Mets traveling to Yankee Stadium for a weekend series from April 24-26 and then the Yankees going to Citi Field from Sept. 18-20, also a weekend series.

The Yankees will open the season at home against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 6. They play the Red Sox 19 times, including in the second series of the season, April 10-12, in the Bronx, the last series before the All-Star break, July 10-12 at Fenway Park, and four at home from Sept. 28-Oct. 1.

In addition to the Mets, the Bombers will play interleague series against the NL East -- the Washington Nationals, Miami Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves.

The Mets will open the 2015 schedule at the Nationals and will play the AL East, including back-to-back two-game sets against the Blue Jays from June 15-18, and a weekend series against the Red Sox at Citi Field from Aug. 28-30.
