Port Authority: PATH Fares To Increase October 1

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's soon going to be more expensive to ride the PATH train than taking the subway.

As of Oct. 1, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will increase the single-ride PATH fare by 25 cents.

A single PATH ride will increase to $2.75 and a two-trip ticket will be $5.50.

PATH customers can save money by purchasing multi-ride tickets, including a 10-trip ticket for $21; a 20-trip ticket for $42; and a 40-trip ticket for $84; or a 7-day unlimited ticket for $29 and a 30-day unlimited ticket for $89.

The rate hike is part of the Port Authority's 10-year Capital Plan. According to the PANYNJ, $3.3 billion is anticipated to be invested in PATH infrastructure with funds partially derived from PATH fares. The plan includes three major projects – the replacement of the Harrison PATH Station, the modernization of the Grove Street PATH Station and the PATH extension to Newark Liberty International Airport.

In addition to the major projects, there are 71 core PATH projects in the program.
