Off-Field Issue? N.Y. Dems Rip Astorino For Being Dolphins Fan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Democrats in Western New York are asking voters to take a long, hard look at Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino for the offense of being -- yikes! -- a Miami Dolphins fan.

And Astorino isn't taking it lightly, responding with a stiff-arm regarding Gov. Andrew Cuomo's football allegiances.

The back-and-forth started last week, when the Erie County Democratic Party aired the following ad with the Dolphins set to invade Buffalo:

Astorino, whose team lost 29-10, pointed out on Twitter that Cuomo roots for the Jets, not the Bills. He also charged Cuomo of being chummy with rocker Jon Bon Jovi, whose music was kiboshed in many Buffalo bars for being the front-man for a Toronto-based group looking to buy the Bills.

It didn't end there.

On Monday, Astorino blasted Dems for digitally altering an image in the attack ad, erasing his son from "a special and cherished occasion" at Miami's Sun Life Stadium.

"I won't even bother asking (Cuomo) for an apology, because I know I won't get one from this governor," he said in a statement.

Maybe next time the candidates should consider a friendly wager.
