Prosecutors: 1 Dead, 2 Wounded In Newark Shooting Friday Night

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - One man was killed and two people were wounded when shots rang out in Newark.

Police officers responding to reports of shots fired on North 9th Street in the city's Roseville section found the victims around 11 p.m. Friday.

Essex County prosecutors say 28-year-old city resident Andrew Peppers was pronounced dead early Saturday at a hospital. The two other victims, identified only as a man and a woman, were being treated there for wounds that were not considered life-threatening, but further details were not disclosed.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined, and further details on the incident were not disclosed.

No arrests have been made.

A conference convened earlier in September by the mayors of New Jersey's three largest cities to discuss sharing resources to combat violent crime took a hard look at policing practices that some experts said exacerbate the problem.
