MUST-LISTEN: WFAN Host Mike Francesa Rips Into The 'Lost' Jets

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Jets lost their third straight game on Sunday, again playing sloppy football and letting an opportunity slip away.

Chants of "We Want Vick" could be heard at MetLife Stadium as Geno Smith struggled yet again, and the quarterback ended his day by hurling an expletive at a fan.

WFAN host Mike Francesa kicked off his Monday program with his thoughts on Gang Green, and as you would expect, he wasn't too kind in his assessment.

The Jets Are Lost

"The Jets, from their head coach through their general manager through the organization, are lost," Francesa said. "It's typical, because all they do is say the same things. 'We just have to clean this up.' How long are they gonna be cleaning this up? 'We just gotta clean up the mistakes. We're better than these other teams.' No, you're not. If you think you're better than those Lion players, you're out of your mind."

Four games now in the books, the Jets' murderous schedule only gets more difficult. New York will take on the Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium before facing the Broncos (home) and the Patriots (road). All of a sudden a 1-6 start looks possible, which isn't acceptable considering the heightened expectations that this team had.

"You're lost, is what you are," Francesa said. "You're 1-3, and you weren't even playing the toughest part of your schedule. You're 1-3 and you already played three home games! Now you play the Chargers, now you play the Broncos, now you play Tom Brady. And this idea of (head coach) Rex Ryan with absolutely no immediacy. Maybe he doesn't care if he gets fired. Maybe his job's safe and we don't know it."

Is Ryan's seat getting hotter? Will a full-fledged quarterback controversy emerge? Will general manager John Idzik do anything drastic or will he wait it out? Yep, it should be an interesting few months as the schedule shifts to October.

"If you're Rex Ryan, you can't be happy about what's going on with your quarterback, a position that he is usually completely disengaged from anyway," Francesa said. "And you can't be happy about the fact that, in a year where you were asked to win -- or have your career be at a crossroads with the Jets -- that your general manager decided not to spend any money! And give you a cornerback situation that's dreadful!"
