Joe Namath: Why Isn't Jets GM John Idzik Spending More Money On Talent?

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- So the Jets are 1-3, and everybody is looking for somebody to blame for Gang Green's struggles.

Joe Namath always has an opinion on his former team, and he let his thoughts on this year's squad be known on Tuesday.

Is it quarterback Geno Smith's fault?

Nope.

How about head coach Rex Ryan?

Wrong again.

General manager John Idzik?

Ding-ding-ding!

"I heard about this extra money that they have," Namath said. "I don't know what they're saving it for, myself, looking at the talent they have out there right now."

The Jets are clearly short on talent, and Idzik has been criticized for the organization being nearly $21 million under the salary cap.

"School's out," the Jets' legend said in regard to Idzik. "We'd like to have seen a better team out there, better personnel out there in some spots. Wide receiver, defensive backs. Injuries get in the way, ya know, (and) guys haven't developed that they have picked."

After winning their season opener against the Raiders, the Jets have lost three straight to the Packers, Bears and Lions.

"You got to find the right men to play the game," Namath said, "and why (is it) some teams stay in the hunt more than others year in and year out? It's the people that are making decisions. It starts at the top."
