L.I. Woman Found Guilty Of Severely Neglecting Horses

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A jury has found a Long Island woman guilty of severely neglecting horses she rented for special events.

Cynthia Schultes, of Ridge, is the owner of Time Shires. She was found guilty Tuesday on five counts of animal cruelty, one for each horse found emaciated and neglected.

Schultes says she'll appeal the verdict, saying she would never hurt any of her animals.

The five horses were sent to the nonprofit Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue following an investigation by the Suffolk County SPCA last year.

According to Newsday one of the horses was euthanized two months ago. His eye was removed in August 2013 because it oozed pus and blood.

The horse rescue group says the horse's eye cancer spread through his body, resulting in him having to be put down.
