Fed Up With Criticism, Decker's Wife Goes Off On Jets Fans' Negativity On Twitter

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Yeah, the Jets needed this like they needed a hole in the head.

Mired in a season to forget, Gang Green is dealing with another distraction -- Jesse James Decker.

It seems the country singer wife of Jets wide receiver Eric Decker is none too pleased with the treatment the team has received on Twitter from frustrated fans.

New York will enter Sunday's game at Kansas City a loser of seven consecutive games. Quarterback Geno Smith has been benched in favor of veteran Michael Vick, there has been non-stop speculation swirling about the job status of head coach Rex Ryan, and the backlash over general manager John Idzik's awkward press conference on Monday is still fresh in everyone's mind.

Eric Decker asked the fans on Wednesday why they love the Jets so much. Perhaps the timing of the question was ill-advised because  answers he received weren't so kind and dripped with sarcasm. The receiver's wife took exception to the negativity.

The Jets signed Eric Decker to a five-year, $36.25 million contract during the offseason. He has fought through a hamstring injury to catch 31 passes for a team-high 363 yards and three touchdowns in seven games. Part of Decker's problem has been the play of Smith, which has been so bad that Ryan was forced to bench his second-year signal-caller in the first quarter last week against Buffalo.

Jesse James Decker softened her tone a bit in subsequent tweets to her 381,000-plus followers.

Eric Decker, along with receivers Percy Harvin and Jeremy Kerley, stand to benefit from the switch to Vick, who has thrown for more than 21,000 yards during what has been a successful 12-year career.

It's believed the Jets at some point will switch back to Smith as they likely play out the string of another disappointing season.
