'Fire John Idzik' Website Aims To Bring Message To Billboard

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- These Gang Green fans are seeing red.

The pals behind the website FireJohnIdzik.com are hoping to bring their message -- imploring the Jets to, well, fire general manager John Idzik -- off the screen and onto a gigantic billboard near MetLife Stadium.

"In two offseasons, Idzik has managed to ruin the roster and if he stays on, undoubtedly the future roster of this team," Greg Kohler, one of four co-founders, told Metro New York. "He has set this organization back years upon years with his awful drafting and even worse free agent signings."

The website, which launched earlier this week, features an "Idzik Hall of Shame" complete with images of failed pickups and embarrassing press clippings.

"Join other long suffering Jets fans in our quest to rid the organization of our CLOWN GM," the website says. "Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase a billboard in the vicinity of MetLife Stadium and let the Jets know that their most loyal fans are demanding change.

"Show (owner) Woody (Johnson) that we paid our PSL's. We put up with the massive rip-off that is MetLife Stadium and the absurd price of tickets & concessions. But we will no longer put up with John Idzik running the show."

Idzik, whose methodical approach resulted in New York entering the season more than $20 million under the cap, wasn't thought to be in much danger despite a 1-7 start to 2014. Then came Monday's press conference.

The second-year GM expressed confidence in his players and coaches in a 19-minute soliloquy, but didn't inspire much of it himself. Fans and media alike described the presser as awkward at best.

"The press conference (Monday) obviously was the straw that broke the camel's back but to be honest, the manner in which he was hired in the first place was ridiculous," co-founder Jason Koeppel of Hackensack told Metro.

Anyone who donates $25 to the cause will get a free T-shirt with "Fire John Idzik" on the front and "Idzik 0 Clue" on the back. The money, according to the website, will go toward the billboard.

"He has no plan or philosophy, and he's proven this by trading for Percy Harvin, signing zero competent corners and insisting the worst statistical quarterback in the NFL (should) start," Kohler said. "I can't take another year of this, nor can this organization afford it. Woody needs to fire Idzik now."
