Police: Woman, 2 Men Attack And Rob Man Inside Mineola Apartment

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 22-year-old woman and two accomplices attacked and robbed a man inside his Mineola apartment, police said.

Nassau County Police Inspector Kenneth Lack said Arlene Morel, 22, of Bay Shore met the 41-year-old victim online and had been to his apartment before the incident.

"The exact nature of their relationship is still under investigation," Lack told 1010 WINS.

On Monday afternoon, Lack said Morel called the victim about 15 to 20 minutes before the robbery and told him she was on the way up to the apartment.

"When she knocked on the door, the other two individuals rushed in and began to beat the victim," Lack said.

Morel and her accomplices, identified by police as 21-year-old Malik Taylor and 22-year-old Mark Coleman, stole the victim's safe and fled in a vehicle, police said.

They were eventually arrested when their car collided with a livery cab following a brief police pursuit, police said.

"It seems that these suspects targeted this victim, but if you ever meet someone on a social website for the first initial meeting you're probably better off meeting in a public place," Lack said.

All three are being charged with burglary, robbery, grand larceny and conspiracy.

Coleman is additionally being charged with violation of parole. Taylor is also being charged with reckless endangerment and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

They are expected to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

The victim, who suffered swelling about the face and torso, refused medical attention at the scene.  No other injuries were reported.
