2 Firefighters Hurt While Battling Blaze At Paterson Duplex
PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Two firefighters were injured while battling a fast-moving fire that destroyed a northern New Jersey duplex and displaced 14 people.
Paterson authorities say the two-alarm blaze broke out shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday in the home on Governor Street. Responding firefighters were met by heavy smoke coming from the roof of the three-story building.
One firefighter was hospitalized with bruises, cuts and possible concussion after being struck by a hose that burst due to the icy conditions. The other was treated at the scene for undisclosed injuries.
A neighboring building also was damaged by the fire.
The people displaced by the blaze, eight adults and six children, were receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
