12/7 CBS2 Sunday Afternoon Weather Headlines

By Matt DeLucia, CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Finally, the rain is outta here! Not before we picked up a good amount though, with 1-2 inches falling across the region. That system has moved off the coast, and high pressure is building in from the west. We're stuck in between these two air masses, which is the culprit behind the strong winds this afternoon. High temps will top out around 40, but with wind gusts up to 40 mph at times, it will feel more like the 20s and 30s. Bundle up if you're headed out today!

Expect temps to drop below freezing in the city overnight, with lows in the mid 20s. We'll reach 40 once again for Monday, with increasing clouds. Some late drizzle may work its way into the area, but otherwise staying dry.

Tuesday is the day we're keeping a close eye on, as a coastal low forms and moves up the coast. It's looking like a full day of rain and wind for most. A real huge mess of a day! This will linger, finally clearing late on Wednesday. As of now, it looks like heavy rain, strong winds and, with that, the potential for coastal flooding. Any winter precip would be confined to the far northwest suburbs. Stay tuned for the latest as we get closer to Tuesday!
