12/7: CBS2 Sunday Evening Weather Headlines

By Mark McIntyre Jr, CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Well folks, the weekend is drawing to a close. It sure looked pretty today but boy, was it chilly! The winds that made it feel even colder will stick with us through the night, and everyone will drop below freezing tonight.

It will be cold for everybody tomorrow morning (with a starting point only in the mid 20s in NYC!), so you'll want to make sure the kids are warm waiting for the bus. Temps will "warm up" to a max of 40 in the city. There could be some light drizzle or showers in the evening, but most of the day will be dry...

Evening Surface Map

...Then things get interesting for Tuesday through Wednesday. A powerful coastal storm will affect the region and bring soaking rain for most. Looking at 1-3" of rain with the higher amounts along the coasts, strong wind gusts up to 40 mph, possible coastal flooding, and the threat of sleet, snow, and ice well inland. We're not expecting a repeat of the pre-Thanksgiving storm in terms of snowfall. This storm looks "warmer" in comparison but it will still be a mid-week mess any way you slice it.

Evening Storm Discussion

Things gradually taper off Wednesday but we'll still be unsettled, even into Thursday...but the brunt of the action is Tuesday and Tuesday night. Be sure to stay tuned for our upcoming updates on this wild week of weather!
