Jury Re-Convicts N.J. Man For Gunpoint Rape
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A jury has convicted a central New Jersey man a second time for a gunpoint rape committed more than 12 years ago.
After two hours of deliberations over two days, the panel found Bruce Sterling guilty Tuesday on several counts including terroristic threats, aggravated sexual assault and weapons offenses.
Sterling was previously convicted of the assault, but the state Supreme Court threw out the conviction last year when it said the lower court made a mistake by consolidating several charges in one trial and letting certain evidence be introduced in another.
Sterling has been serving a 40-year sentence for convictions in two other cases.
Bruce Sterling was arrested in 2005 and charged with aggravated sexual assaults in New Brunswick, North Brunswick and Edison between 2002 and 2005. The victims testified he used a knife to threaten them during the attacks.
The 44-year-old New Brunswick resident faces a sentence up to 20 years when he's sentenced in February.
