1/2 CBS2 Friday Evening Weather Headlines

By Mark McIntyre Jr, CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Finally it's Friday evening-- the first of the new year! Expect a mostly clear but chilly night with temps dropping to the freezing mark in NYC, into the 20s elsewhere. Temps will be in the mid-30s as you wake up Saturday morning.

The weekend storm that we've been talking about is still on track, but looks like a slightly earlier start; more around midday than late afternoon. Folks north/west of the city in the Lower Hudson Valley and northwest New Jersey will stand the best chance of seeing snow, but it's not a gigantic snow storm. 1-2" at most, and everyone is getting rain by 8 p.m.

Rain will be heavy at times overnight into Sunday morning and taper to showers by mid-day. It'll feel like spring with highs near 60 degrees! But it won't last. The approaching cold front will spark some showers, maybe some thunderstorms, in the early evening. Temps drop in a big way Sunday night.

Check back later for newest details on the weekend storm!
