Report: Jets Hope To Hire Quinn As Head Coach, Maccagnan As GM

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If the Jets have their way, the Seattle Seahawks will lose soon so they can hire their next head coach, Dan Quinn.

Seattle's defensive coordinator is reportedly New York's top target to replace the fired Rex Ryan. So much so, had the Seahawks lost their divisional round playoff game to Carolina on Saturday, Jets executives were prepared to immediately fly to the Pacific Northwest to try and hire Quinn, ESPN reported.

It turns out Quinn's defense played a massive role in the Seahawks' 31-17 victory and will be on display next Sunday when Seattle hosts the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers, 26-21 winners over the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional round on Sunday.

The Jets are prepared to wait to get their man. Quinn has reportedly indicated that if he joins the Jets he'd like to bring along Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator. Shanahan held the same role this past season with the Cleveland Browns.

The Jets also appeared to be on the verge of hiring a new general manager to replace the fired John Idzik. According to several reports, the Jets were expected to hire Houston Texans director of college scouting Mike Maccagnan at some point on Sunday.

Maccagnan was in town for three days and the initial plan was for the Jets to hire him on Saturday and then bring him to Seattle to help woo Quinn, ESPN reported.

The Jets' brain trust of owner Woody Johnson and consultants Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf have interviewed several other GM candidates, including Miami Dlphins director of college scouting Chris Grier, Philadelphia Eagles director of pro personnel Rick Mueller, Seattle director of pro personnel Trent Kirchner, Cleveland executive chief of staff Bill Kuharich, Tampa Bay Buccaneers director of player personnel Jon Robinson, and Jets senior director of football administration Rod Graves.

On the head coach front, if the Jets fail to get Quinn, they are reportedly also very impressed with Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich, and could get into the mix for Baltimore offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who is expected to take interviews now that the Ravens have been eliminated from the playoffs.

News of the Jets' potential hires came on the same day it was learned the Buffalo Bills were prepared to hire Ryan to a reported five-year, $27.5 million contract to be their next head coach.
