Jets' Richardson Heading To The Pro Bowl In Place Of Injured McCoy

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- As far as Jets fans are concerned, justice has been served.

When Pro Bowl rosters were first announced a few weeks ago, defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson was a notable omission as he was snubbed despite having a stellar sophomore season.

However, the Jets announced Wednesday that the former Defensive Rookie of the Year will be heading to Glendale, Arizona, for the game on Jan. 25, one week before the Super Bowl, as an injury replacement for Tampa Bay's Gerald McCoy, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Dec. 15 after spraining his right knee.

Richardson, who has quickly become one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, had eight sacks, 84 total tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss/no gain during the 2014 season. He was eventually named the Jets' Team MVP by his teammates.

The former first round pick out of Missouri is the Jets' first defensive tackle named to the Pro Bowl since Kris Jenkins in 2008.

Richardson will be joining Jets center Nick Mangold in Glendale. Mangold will be playing in the Pro Bowl for the sixth time.
