Bowles Names 3 More Coaches To Jets' Staff

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The makeover of the Jets' coaching staff continued Thursday with new head coach Todd Bowles announcing three more hires.

Jimmie Johnson was named tight ends coach, Daylon McCutcheon will be a defensive backs assistant, and Ryan Slowik was tabbed as an assistant coach for defensive line/quality control-defense.

Johnson, a former teammates of Bowles when both were on the Washington Redskins, was a blocking tight end for four teams during his 10-year NFL career and has since spent nine years as an assistant coach.

McCutcheon was a corner for the Cleveland Browns for seven seasons and was a training camp coach intern last two seasons with the Jets and Arizona Cardinals, respectively.

Slowik has 10 years of coaching experience in the NFL, including the last two on Bowles' staff as a defensive backs assistant with the Cardinals.

The moves came a day after the Jets announced the hiring of Kevin Patullo as quarterbacks coach.

Last week, Bowles hired Chan Gailey as the Jets' new offensive coordinator.

Bowles has also hired: Kacy Rodgers as defensive coordinator, Bobby April (special teams), Pepper Johnson (defensive line), Mark Collins (outside linebackers), Joe Danna (defensive backs-safeties), Karl Dorrell (wide receivers) and Robby Brown (quality control-offense). Justus Galac was retained as the Jets' strength and conditioning coach, while Kavan Latham and Aaron McLaurin also return as Galac's assistants.

The Jets on Tuesday also announced the hirings of Steve Marshall (offensive line) and Marcel Shipp (running backs). Shipp ran for 2,197 yards and 11 TDs in seven seasons with Arizona.

The Jets also added to their front office, announcing the hiring of Rex Hogan as the team's senior director of college scouting.

Hogan spent the last 12 years in the Chicago Bears' scouting department, working as a national scout the last three seasons after serving as a college scout for nine years. He replaces Terry Bradway, who was fired by new general manager Mike Maccagnan two weeks ago along with director of college scouting Jeff Bauer.

The Jets announced the hiring Thursday, two days after Brian Heimerdinger was added as the team's director of player personnel.

Hogan, a native of Clarksville, Tennessee, previously worked as director of football operations under Urban Meyer at the University of Utah in 2003 and was with Notre Dame's football program from 1998-2003, the last four seasons in recruiting and operations.
