1/31: CBS2 Saturday Afternoon Weather Headlines

By Matt DeLucia, CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Good Afternoon!

BRRRRRR!!! That about sums up today around the Tri-State. We started out the morning with sub-zero wind chills, as low as -20 degrees in the NW 'burbs! High temps will top out in the low to mid 20s, but it definitely won't be feeling like it. With brisk winds out of the northwest at 15-25 mph, it'll be feeling more like the single digits in the city! Winds will be gusting up to 40 mph at times, so be sure to bundle up if headed out. The upside? Plenty of sunshine!

Partly cloudy skies for tonight, with a low of 20 for NYC. Still breezy, but not as harsh. Winds will become more westerly at 10-15 mph.

We've been keeping a steady eye on our next storm system, which will arrive Sunday evening and continue for most of the day Monday. As of now, not much change in what we expect. Clouds will be on the increase through the day tomorrow. After a high in the low 30s, light snow will begin to make it's way into the region after the dinner hour. By the time you're leaving those superbowl parties, it should be snowing across the region and this will continue through the overnight hours.

Monday morning is what needs to be watched very carefully. Temps will be dropping through the day, but the latest trends suggest the snow/mix/rain line will move northward into the city just in time for the morning commute. How far north this line moves will ultimately determine snowfall accumulations. In general, expect higher totals N&W, lower totals S&E. The far northwest suburbs will be cold enough to support all snow. Right now I'm thinking around 4" for the city, assuming the storm does not trend further north. Whatever happens, we'll be on top of it for you!

Good news is we clear out for Tuesday, but MUCH colder. Morning lows in the single digits around the city and likely below zero in the suburbs. Check back in soon for the latest on our approaching storm!
