Lundqvist Day-To-Day With Neck Injury, To Miss Rangers' Game Against Bruins

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Rangers might have to make do without their "King" for a while.

Not long after Henrik Lundqvist was ruled out of Wednesday night's game against the visiting Boston Bruins, the Rangers updated their star goaltender's status, saying he's day-to-day with a neck injury.

Head coach Alain Vigneault initially told reporters Lundqvist suffered an "upper body injury" and that it was related to the scary incident from Saturday night when he took a puck to the throat off a wrist shot by the Carolina Hurricanes' Brad Malone.

Lundqvist, who won the Vezina Trophy during the 2011-12 season, went on to finish that game, but later admitted that he had some trouble breathing and was briefly lightheaded. He then played on Monday night, making 33 saves in the Blueshirts' 6-3 win over Florida.

He will be replaced Wednesday night by backup Cam Talbot.

Lundqvist is 25-11-3 with a 2.25 goals-against average and .922 save percentage this season for the Rangers, who entered play Wednesday with 62 points, three behind the first-place Islanders in the Metropolitan Division.

Talbot has proven to be quite capable, going 4-4 with a 2.15 GAA and .926 save percentage in 11 games this season.

"We are very confident with Cam in goal. He's going to be fine tonight," Vigneault said.
