Man, 83, Killed In Fire In Newark Apartment

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An 83-year-old man was killed Saturday when a fire broke out in an apartment in Newark.

The fire broke out just after 1:30 p.m. in an apartment at the Pavilion Apartments, at 136 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's office.

The resident of the apartment – identified as Earl Johnson – was rushed to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Further information on the fire was not released late Saturday.
