2/21 CBS2 Saturday Afternoon Weather Headlines

By Matt DeLucia, CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Good Afternoon!

Did you catch the sunrise this morning? If you were up early, it was a beautiful start! Of course, the clouds were all ahead of our next winter storm...

Snow will move in this afternoon from west to east between 1-4 PM. With temps in the 20s, everyone will start out with a period of snow. Steady snow will continue into the evening, moderate to heavy at times. Unlike the last couple of storms, warm air will overide the cold air later tonight, eventually making it to the surface. The rain/snow line will progress from SE to NW between 8 PM and midnight. During the changeover, freezing rain will become a concern and some icing is possible. We then expect mainly rain during the early morning hours tomorrow, ending west to east 7-10 AM.

As far as accumulations, it looks like a general 2-4" through the city, with higher amounts north and west. Likely 4-6" in places like Warren and Hunderton counties, as well as up into Sullivan and Orange. Some localized spots far north and west could see slightly higher amounts. Keep in mind this is before the changeover occurs. Less totals south and east of the city, as these places see the most rain. The rain brings another problem however... the snow cover plus rain may cause flooding issues in spots. You'll definitiely want to be cautious while on the roads this afternoon and evening!

The plus side is this thing moves out pretty quickly Sunday morning, with some sun during the afternoon. Temps look to top out in the low to mid 40s! Unfortunately, this will be a very brief rebound. Cold front moves through Sunday night, and we're back below freezing to start the work week. Lows in the single digits once again come Tuesday morning.

These warm vs. cold systems are always tricky, so be sure to check back in soon for the latest on tonight's storm! Any changes, we'll have 'em for ya!
