Traffic Stop In Lincoln Tunnel Nets Police Sex Offender Wanted In Florida

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Police say a traffic stop in a New York City tunnel has resulted in the arrest of a man with an open warrant in Florida.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department says Ricardo Hernandez was pulled over in the Lincoln Tunnel at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Joe Pentangelo says the 40-year-old Queens man smelled like alcohol after he ignored a "Do Not Enter" sign and had an open bottle of cognac in his 2001 Chrysler.

Police say Hernandez gave police a false license and stumbled and tripped as he walked to the rear of his car.

Pentangelos says a visibly drunk Hernandez failed a sobriety test and was arrested. He had admitted to have been drinking.

Officials in Broward County, Florida, say Hernandez is a registered sex offender wanted for violating parole.

Hernandez is in jail on $50,000 bail and unavailable for comment. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
