Nassau County Official: Gas Station Shut Down After Selling Contaminated Fuel
WESTBURY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Some drivers on Long Island had to have costly repairs performed on their cars after receiving contaminated gas from a Westbury filling station, a Nassau County official said.
Nassau County Consumer Affairs Commissioner Madeline Farley told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall the tanks at the BP gas station on Carmen Avenue had 5 inches of water in them, and at least five vehicles broke down as a result.
"The legal limit that's allowed to be in the tank is 2 inches of water," Farley told Hall. "So 5 inches is way too much."

Farley said there was an issue with the caps on the tanks, and snow and ice seeped into the gas.
Bright pink stickers with the words "condemened" and "forbidden" were placed on the tanks at the station.
"They cannot reopen until they purge the tanks of all the contaminated gasoline and replace all the fuel filters," Farley said.
The owner of the gas station could not be reached for comment.
