NYPD Reclassifies Case When Man Dies 7 Months After Stabbing

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - A New York City man has died seven months after he was stabbed in what police say was a property dispute, prompting investigators to reclassify the case to a homicide.

Police say Saturday that Alberto Zayas died Friday from injuries he sustained last August 11. That's when they say the 63-year-old was stabbed in the back in the Bronx by Nando Hernandez.

Authorities charged the 48-year-old Hernandez with three counts of assault and other crimes.

But police say since the case was reclassified, upgraded charges might be filed.

His attorney says Hernandez pleaded not guilty to the assault charges and would do so if upgraded charges are filed.
