Prosecutors: More Than 40 New Jersey Burglaries Solved With Arrests

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A six-month investigation has led to the arrest in 42 burglaries in New Jersey, the Bergen County Prosecutor's office announced Wednesday.

The burglaries occurred between Monmouth and Bergen counties, and three different groups of suspects have are believed to be responsible, prosecutors said. A multi-jurisdictional police task force investigated and busted the burglary rings, prosecutors said.

The burglaries happened in Allendale, Englewood, Franklin Lakes, Fairfield, Fair Lawn, Hillsdale, Mahwah, Nutley, Oakland, Oceanport, Old Tappan, Parsippany, Ridgewood, River Edge, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River, Tinton Falls, Totowa, Verona, Waldwick, Washington Township and Woodcliff Lake in New Jersey, as well as Pearl River in New York, prosecutors said.

The suspects were arrested during the month of February, prosecutors said. In the first arrests on Feb. 10, Daniel Gomez, 46, and Julio Ponce, 33, were arrested after allegedly committing a burglary in Englewood, prosecutors said.

They had been under surveillance and had been seen casing homes in Tenafly and Englewood, prosecutors said.

A week later on Feb. 17, police from a multi-jurisdictional task force arrested John Cando, 38, who had been under surveillance for several weeks and was linked to burglaries in Fair Lawn, Oakland, Mahwah, Fair Lawn, Oceanport and Tinton Falls, prosecutors said.

After a burglary on Feb. 13, police also tracked a stolen laptop computer to a home in Paramus, and identified numerous items suspected to be stolen from past burglaries – including jewelry and electronics, prosecutors said.

On Feb. 17, Paramus and South Hackensack officers arrested Michael Puig, 25, and Gino Manna, 34, in connection with additional burglaries.

The investigation continued Wednesday as detectives tried to locate the owners of the items they recovered.
