3 People Wounded In 2 Weekend Shootings In New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Three people in New Brunswick were hospitalized over the weekend following two shootings.

Police were called to Mason Avenue around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday for a report of shots fired in the area.

Officers responding to the call saw and stopped a speeding car that was fleeing the area. The officers discovered one of the four people inside the vehicle, 27-year-old Shabazz Muhammed, of New Brunswick, had been shot in the abdomen.

Muhammed remained in the hospital Monday and was last listed in critical but stable condition.

The following day, around 2:15 p.m. another shooting occurred on Class Place.

Authorities said 22-year-old Anthony Brown, of New Brunswick, was shot in the hand and the buttocks, while a 17-year-old boy was shot once in the chest. Both victims were hospitalized in stable condition.

Police are still investigating the motives in both shootings.
