Jets Sign Veteran Tight End Kellen Davis

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Jets had long been looking for a blocking tight and on Wednesday found a good one.

Veteran Kellen Davis agreed to a one-year contract, the team announced. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately known.

Davis, who reportedly visited the Jets on Tuesday, was cut by the Giants at the end of training camp last season before eventually appearing in six games for the Detroit Lions. In 2013, he played in 15 games for the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

A fifth round pick in 2008, Davis had his best receiving seasons with the Chicago Bears in 2011 and 2012, registering a combined 37 receptions for 435 yards and seven touchdowns.

However, the 6-foo-7, 265-pounder fills a need as a pass- and run-blocker, things the Jets have not gotten consistently from Jace Amaro, Jeff Cumberland, Zach Sudfeld and Chris Pantale, the other tight ends on the roster.
