Cops Look For Suspect In Subway Cellphone Robbery

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down a man who they say threatened to shoot a subway rider before stealing his cellphone.

At around 1:48 p.m. on March 24, the suspect approached an 18-year-old man at the Brooklyn Bridge subway station, located at Centre and Chambers streets in Manhattan. The suspect threatened to shoot the victim if he did not give him his phone, police said. The victim complied, and the robber then boarded a southbound train, cops said. The suspect never displayed a weapon.

Police have released surveillance video of the man they are seeking. He is described as Hispanic, approximately 20 years old, standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing around 160 pounds and wearing a black hooded jacket and blue jeans.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery or suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-8477 or to submit a tip online at NYPDCrimeStoppers.com. All communications are kept confidential.
