Police: Pot Shipment Encased In Peanut Butter Mistakenly Sent To Brooklyn Grocery Store

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Talk about a sticky situation.

Police were called Monday after a vacuum-sealed shipment of peanut butter sent via the United States Postal Service to a Crown Heights grocery store appeared to have marijuana inside.

Police said someone associated with the grocery store alerted the authorities after a leafy, green substance could be seen through the plastic.

Upon investigation, police found 10 bags of marijuana smothered in peanut butter and wrapped inside the large bag.

Authorities believe the peanut butter was used to mask the smell of the marijuana during its shipment.

Police also believe the package had been shipped to the wrong address. The package had a California return address.

The peanut butter and marijuana have been turned over to NYPD's narcotic unit, which is investigating.

No arrests have been made.
