'RHONJ' Husband, Joe Giudice, Gets 18 Months For Driver's License Fraud

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) – The husband of "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star, Teresa Giudice, was sentenced to 18 months in a New Jersey prison Thursday.

Giuseppe "Joe" Giudice was sentenced by Judge Adam Jacobs in Paterson for driver's license fraud after, he used his brother's birth certificate to get a new one.

In a plea deal, he agreed to lose his license for up to two years and pay a fine of $10,000. As CBS2's Jill Nicolini reported, the fine will be paid in $500 increments every 30 days.

In an unrelated case, Joe Giudice will begin a 41-month prison sentence in 2016 for bankruptcy fraud.

"He received 18 months concurrent with the federal. The whole intent of the sentence is he will not do an extra minute of time," attorney Miles Feinstein said.

The judge said that Joe's driving record was the worst that he's ever seen. He gave Giudice a note to drive home on Thursday for the last time and made it clear that it will be his last day behind the wheel.

His wife Teresa is currently serving a 15-month sentence at a federal prison in Danbury, Conn., for bankruptcy fraud.

Jennifer Peros, the deputy news director at US Weekly recently visited with Joe and spoke with Teresa over the phone.

"She was good. I expected the opposite. She seemed very strong, much more worried about the girls and wanted to talk more about her family and how they were doing," Peros said.

The Bureau of Prisons has cut the reality TV star's sentence by 54 days, CBS2 learned in January.

She could also get additional days shaved off for good behavior.

She and her husband pleaded guilty last year and admitted hiding assets from bankruptcy creditors and submitting phony loan applications to get some $5 million in mortgages and construction loans. Joe also pleaded guilty to failing to pay taxes totaling more than $200,000.
