Calling All Poets: City's Annual #PoetweetNYC Contest Underway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- 'Tis better to have tweeted and lost, than never to have tweeted at all.

In honor of National Poetry Month, New York City's PoetweetNYC contest opened Monday, inviting people around the country to tweet their verse for a chance to have it published.

The winning entry will appear April 30 in the Metro newspaper.

To enter, post a single-tweet poem with #PoetweetNYC by 5 p.m. April 13.

The city has held the contest for several years. The contest predates Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration, but it has a big fan in first lady Chirlane McCray who is herself a poet.

Last year, McCray selected the winning entries.
