Riverhead Residents Fight Oil Terminal Expansion Plan
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Some Long Island residents are vowing to fight any plan to expand an oil terminal to include gasoline and natural gas.
United Riverhead Terminal Inc. says the expansion in the Northville section of Riverhead would bring more jobs and cheaper gas prices, WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported.
United, which is owned by supermarket magnate and onetime New York City mayoral candidate John Catsimatidis, is asking the Riverhead Town Board for permission to convert two tanks to store gasoline and build two new tanks to store ethanol, Newsday reported.

Residents say they're worried about the highly flammable gas-filled trucks traveling the country roads and the possibility that terrorists could target the facility.
"If somebody wants to hit that, they can, and the whole thing will change," one homeowner said.
