Police: Man Ripped Off $2,500 Necklace From Diamond District Store

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police were searching Wednesday night for a thief who stole a $2,500 necklace from a jewelry store in the Diamond District in Midtown.

Around 3:30 p.m. this past Sunday, the suspect entered the Diamonds jewelry store at 13 W. 47th St. and asked an employee to view some jewelry he said he wanted to buy, police said.

The employee showed the suspect a necklace worth about $2,500, police said. The suspect grabbed the necklace and ran off, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male about 25 to 35 years old. Police have released surveillance photos.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
