2 Homes Damaged, 4 Firefighters Injured In Clifton Fire
CLIFTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) – An early morning blaze has ripped through two northern New Jersey homes, destroying one and leaving the other uninhabitable.
Clifton Fire Chief Vincent Colavitti Jr. says the fire broke out at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday in a two-family home and quickly spread to an adjacent house on E. 6th Street.
Chopper2 was over the scene Thursday morning, where fire was seen shooting through the roof.
Everyone was able to escape unharmed. It's unclear how many people were displaced by the fire.
Neighbors say they tried to use a garden hose to extinguish the blaze, but it had no effect.
It took 60 firefighters about two hours to control the fire. Colavitti says the house where the fire started needs to be demolished, but the other could be salvaged.
Colavitti says four firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
