Long Island Man Dead After Crashing Into Tree

BRIGHTWATERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Police on Long Island are investigating a one-car crash that killed the driver and injured his passenger.

The crash happened at 1:43 a.m. Saturday in the village of Brightwaters.

Suffolk County police say a Honda struck a median, then veered off the road and hit a utility pole. Then it crashed into a tree.

The 25-year-old driver was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released.

The female passenger is being treated at the same hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
