Rangers Mysteriously Stop Using Capital Letters On Twitter Ahead Of Caps Series

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Superstition has long played a role in sports -- especially in hockey -- and we're seeing that firsthand in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Ahead of the Rangers' second-round series against the Washington Capitals, New York has mysteriously stopped using capital letters when sending tweets from its official Twitter account.

Even the official team name and NYR hashtag aren't being capitalized.

The Rangers, who won the Presidents' Trophy during the regular season, are favored to beat Washington and advance to the Eastern Conference finals. But it will certainly be a challenge, as New York's defensemen will have the daunting task of keeping Capitals star winger Alexander Ovechkin in check.

The Rangers dispatched the rival Penguins in five games in their first-round series. The Capitals had a bit more difficult time in their opening-round set, needing seven games to defeat the Islanders.

Game 1 of the Rangers-Capitals series is scheduled for Thursday night at Madison Square Garden. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m.

Game 2 is set for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at MSG.
