Maccagnan: Jets Are Not Looking To Trade Muhammad Wilkerson

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Jets are not looking to trade star defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, general manager Mike Maccagnan told reporters on Thursday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday that at least two teams had reached out to the Jets about trading for the 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman.

Schefter also indicated that more teams were expected to call Maccagnan about Wilkerson's availability when the draft kicked off on Thursday night.

CBSSports.com reported earlier this month that Wilkerson is looking for a new deal, but his camp and the organization have not made much progress — if any — in their negotiations.

The New Jersey native will earn just under $7 million in 2015. If he isn't given a new deal, he'll become an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

Wilkerson didn't report for the start of the team's offseason program earlier this month, and the 25-year-old reportedly skipped voluntary workouts yet again this week.

"I don't really want to comment on if I'd like him to be here or not be here," Maccagnan said recently at a news conference. "I'm sure Mo is doing a good job, wherever he is, working out. But again, these are all voluntary, so he's not required to be here for them."

New York beefed up its defensive line on Thursday night by selecting USC defensive end Leonard Williams with the sixth overall pick.

In 13 games last season, Wilkerson -- a former first-round pick and second-team All-Pro -- recorded 55 combined tackles, 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
