Gov. Christie Defends Tom Brady, Says 'Deflategate' Is 'Way Overblown'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Politics aside, Giants fans already have an issue with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
The Republican, as we all know, is a diehard Cowboys fans.
Giants fans may have some company in Jets fans after the governor defended Tom Brady in the "Deflategate" scandal.
"I think there's a little bit too much attention on this," Christie told IJReview.com. "I mean, I don't think anybody's really trying to say that Tom Brady won four Super Bowls or became a future Hall of Famer because the balls were a little underinflated.
"I think the media and others love -- for somebody who's married to a beautiful model, who's richer than you can imagine and who's a future Hall of Famer -- to take a couple shots at him. People like that every once in a while. I think it's way, way overblown."
The NFL announced on Wednesday it found that Patriots employees probably deflated balls used in last season's AFC championship game against the Colts. The investigation also found that Brady was probably "at least generally aware" of the rules violations.
We could find out as early as next week what -- if there even is one -- the punishment will be. One report suggests that Brady could potentially be suspended for the entirety of the 2015 season.
Brady's agent, Don Yee, released a scathing statement on Thursday ripping the Wells Report. Among other things, Yee said that the report was "a significant and terrible disappointment."
