Long Island Mother, Daughter Arrested For Allegedly Selling Heroin

FREEPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island mother-daughter duo has been arrested after police say they teamed up to sell heroin.

Authorities have been called to the home on Whittier Avenue in North Merrick about 30 times in the past few years for various complaints, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reports, and neighbors say they are fed up.

On Monday night, 51-year-old Denise Burke and her 18-year-old daughter, Danielle, were arrested for selling heroin on the streets of Freeport -- making about $100 a night.

Nassau County Police Chief Kevin Smith said a mother and daughter duo is unusual.

"I've characterized this as street level sales as several bags were usually sold," Smith said. "It's just sad they are both in this trade."

This isn't the first time the mother has been in trouble with drugs. In 2013, authorities say Burke was arrested with her 17-year-old son for possession of heroin.
