2 Killed, 3 Wounded In 4 Separate Jersey City Shootings

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two people were killed and at least three people injured in four separate shootings Sunday in Jersey City.

The violence began around 1:30 a.m. with the fatal shooting of a man on McAdoo Avenue.

A second person was fatally shot around 6:45 p.m. on Orient Avenue off Martin Luther King Drive.

A man was shot about a half-hour later at King Drive and Union Street. He's hospitalized.

Earlier, two women were wounded at King Drive and Oak Street. One was hit in the left armpit and the other was struck in the left leg around 2:45 p.m.

Police say their injuries were not life threatening.

It's unclear if any of the shootings were related.

Mayor Steven Fulop said overall shootings are down, but the city plans to assign additional police foot patrols for the summer to help address any uptick in violence.

"Any homicide is one too many and we take every one seriously," Fulop said. "We have assigned additional foot patrols, we hired a new class that came out of the academy last week and we're getting ready for the summer months and we'll have an increased presence."
