Man Offers Speed Date While You Wait In Subway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- In a city where time is of the essence and multitasking is a must, a Brooklyn man has found a way to look for a love connection while waiting for the subway.

As CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported, it takes a lot to stop busy New Yorkers rushing for a train. But Thomas Knox has found a way to make the most of those minutes as commuters wait on the platform.

"I wanted to do something positive, so I was like, you know what? I'm just going to set up a table, and you know, sit down and have a conversation with people," he said.

Knox's plan to "date while you wait" started a few weeks ago. He sets up a table for people to sit down and have a subway speed date – simply a fun way to meet new people.

"I just want you to have a conversation. Talk to me, tell me a little bit about yourself, tell me how your day went," Knox said. "I feel like I've had some really good connections, one on one."

Though he says he has not found a love connection just yet, Knox, 28, said he has already had dozens of interesting speed dates.

He said he has met "all different types; I've met people from all age ranges, all colors, all creeds."

And others enjoyed the experience sitting down with Knox too.

"There's no risk. There's, like, nothing to lose, like, why not?" one woman said.

"I came from work, so I was kind of tired and on my way home and I thought, 'Oh, this is cool; I'm going to stop by,'" another said.

And other commuters gave his idea a "thumbs up" too.

"It's something that I'm just -- why didn't I think of this?" one man said.

Knox said he plans to set up his "date while you wait" table at least once a week. He posts his location on social media – a location he keeps secret until the very last minute.
