Police Search For Suspect Who Gunned Down Man Carrying 1-Year-Old Daughter In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are hoping surveillance video will help identify a suspect who they said gunned down a man as he carried his 1-year-old daughter in the Bronx.

It happened around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday on Taylor Avenue.

Police said the gunman approached 21-year-old Allen McQueen, shot at him but missed. McQueen, holding his 1-year-old daughter, then ran down Taylor Avenue while the suspect fired two additional rounds, hitting the victim in the back, police said.

Witnesses described a horrific scene.

Search Continues For Bronx Shooting Suspect

"They was walking and then all of a sudden, they had to run and then stopped right there where you see that blood," one man said. "The first thing that came to my mind, 'oh my God the child! Where is the child?'"

But another witness said the child ended up in the arms of a good Samaritan.

"When he tried to run with the baby and the lady came, picked up the child and ran inside the building," said witness Victor Solano.

The girl was taken to Jacobi for observation and was released with a bump on her head, police said.

Investigators released surveillance video of the suspect, who they said drove off in a gray Mercedes-Benz with unknown New York plates.

McQueen was taken to Jacobi Hospital where he later died. Police believe the shooter was targeting him.

Meanwhile, people in the community say they don't understand who would be capable of such a crime.

"Who would do something like this?" one man asked. "We're not making a movie. You can't make this up."

"There was a family there, also in front of the building, and you know you don't want nobody to get hurt," another witness said.

Anyone with information is asked call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, visit the Crime Stoppers website or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
