Man Charged In Shooting That Killed 1, Injured 2 In Harlem Public Housing Complex

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect was arrested and charged Tuesday in a shooting last week that left one young man dead and two others injured in a Harlem public housing development.

Demetrius Washington, 19, of the Bronx, was charged in the shooting on Monday, June 29 at the Polo Grounds Houses, near 155th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard.

Police they found Jordan Barber, 18, unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the neck following the shooting around 10:45 p.m. that night. He was taken to Harlem Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the thigh, and a 17-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, officials said. Both of their conditions were listed as "stable" at Harlem Hospital Center following the shooting.

Washington was charged with second-degree murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment in the shooting, police said.
