Report: Giants Hoping To Sign Eli Manning To Extension In Coming Weeks

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's no secret that Eli Manning is entering the final year of his contract.

The Giants' quarterback will earn $17 million in 2015 and then is set to become an unrestricted free agent. But it's unlikely it will ever get to that.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Giants are hoping to sign the 34-year-old to a contract extension in the next few weeks.

"This is another one where the Giants hope to do a deal either before training camp or early on in training camp," Rapoport said on the NFL Network. "My understanding is the Giants' brass is confident in doing a deal in due time.

"Actually, just talking to people on both sides of this, it seems to make sense for both sides to do a deal, one that they think and hope will get done this year."

Last month, the three-time Pro Bowler told WFAN co-hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton that he's not concerned about his contract.

"I guess I just feel blessed that I've got a job," Manning told Boomer & Carton on June 19. "I'm playing football. I've never gotten concerned or worried about contract stuff. I let my agent handle that, let the Giants handle that.

"My focus is totally on going out there and getting back to winning games, and making the playoffs and playing good football. If I focus on that, concentrate on that, everything else will work itself out."

The two-time Super Bowl MVP, who has played his entire career in East Rutherford, also told the radio duo that he would love to retire a Giant.

"Of course. of course," Manning said. "I started here. When you get drafted and you come to an organization, you want to finish there. I'm going into my 12th year. I don't want to change teams, I don't want to change organizations, I don't want to change cities. I'm happy where I am. I want to stay here. And hopefully it works out that way."

The veteran signal caller was brilliant for New York in 2014. He completed 63 percent of his passes, threw for 4,410 yards and tossed 30 touchdowns to 14 interceptions.
