Jets Head Coach Todd Bowles Had Offseason Knee Replacement Surgery

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Todd Bowles is heading into training camp with his new team — and a new knee.

The New York Jets' first-year coach had a partial right knee replacement on July 6, but doesn't expect to have any restrictions during training camp practices this summer. The Jets report for camp Wednesday at their facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.

The 51-year-old Bowles, who played safety for eight NFL seasons with Washington and San Francisco, wore a brace on his knee and limped at times throughout the offseason.

Fox Sports first reported Bowles' surgery.

Bowles was hired by the Jets on January 14 to replace the fired Rex Ryan. He was voted the first recipient of the AP's Assistant Coach of the Year award for his work with Arizona's defense last season.
